Today I received the first episode to start the mixing. This will easily keep me busy for the next few days (between life and my job at Target). I know all I need to know about Pro-Tools to do the mixing/Effects necessary to make these new English dubs work.

It's good to get experience in this sort of thing, because it can look good in a portfolio to get to say you did Post-mixing for Anime dubs, even if the dubs you're mixing will more likely be airing in English-speaking South-Asian countries.

I made this video, using a clip from Don Hertzfeldt's cartoon "Billy's Balloon". When I saw the original cartoon, this idea immediately came to mind (me being a WoW addict and all), but back then I didn't have the video editing software I do now.

also, this is a short that was filmed for the Calm-a-Sutra scholarship contest, and it was written by Raegan Quinn (the female vocalist for the "Hero of Time" score - who plays Bella, the lead protaganist in this video), and directed by George Cahill IV. I did the camera work (under Cahill's direction) as well as playing Mayor Simmons.

The recording for the 3-week anime project began yesterday, and I have begun getting a crash-course education in ProTools. We're doing 6 episodes for the base in Singapore, and if they're satisfied with our work, we'll get more to do, so hopefully all goes well. This could potentially become a much nicer job than Target if everything works out. =p

On the side, I have accepted a paid commission to score a game that is being made for a Gamestop-hosted contest.

Looks to me like I'm in for a busy couple weeks.

This evening (being Tuesday 7/14), I went to the orientation night to the recording job I will be doing. Basically, I'll be doing the post-mix to an English dubbing of an anime. I may get to voice act in it as well - time will tell on that one. We're pretty much going to be grinding it out in the next few weeks, and hopefully have a good turnout.

This'll also be my first real time using ProTools, but after watching the tutorial video I was given, it's very much like Nuendo in many ways; just a different interface to get used to.

By a fan request (Monkeyface91), I've made a cover to Linkin Park's hit song "New Divide", giving it a different spin on its sound.

    Check it out!

My birthday was yesterday (the 7th), so now I'm 27 years old, and life really doesn't seem any more different, except that I'm pushing 30 in a few more years and I'm still in college. Then again, that's my fault for waiting so long to enroll. =p

In other news, by fan request (which I only take when I have time to, which happens to so far be now), I'll be covering a song requested by "MonkeyFace91". Won't say what it is yet as that's part of the surprise, but I will say that it's among today's alternative rock hits.

Also, in the near future, I will be working with a local dubbing studio to do the post-mixing for an anime that is being English dubbed (may or may not get to voice act for it; have to wait for the audition date, but I sure put my name in the hat). It's this independent company's first anime-redubbing project, so hopefully all goes well. Any other information I'm not at liberty to say right now.

Almost forgot. Many people are still wondering what's new in the Hero of Time world, and all I can say is that I'm no longer in the loop of things going on with the film, so I do not know where they are with things. What I do know, from the site (here), is that they plan to do more HoT Spot screenings before they publicly release it online.

...And look on the bright side, we didn't have to spend today fighting off a global alien onslaught.

It's been forever since I've dabbled in techno, but a fan of mine, Justin M. (aka Shadowhawk) commissioned me to compose a piece for his demoreel (his video montage of his film projects). The result is "Arctic Flight", the new piece uploaded to my audio profile.

    Check it out!
